Pezhman

Pezhman was born in 1976 in Shiraz, Iran — the historic center of Persian culture and poetry — and grew up in the United States. He studied art and film at the Atlanta College of Art and continued his education at the New York Academy of Art. This early displacement instilled in him a lifelong sensitivity to place, memory, and the layers of history embedded in both natural and built environments.

Since adolescence, Pezhman has pursued photography and mixed media with equal passion. His formative years were marked by extensive exploration — trekking through wilderness areas, kayaking remote waterways, mountain biking desert trails, and fishing coastal waters. These experiences cultivated a deep environmental consciousness and a keen eye for the textures, light, and atmosphere that define a landscape. Yet cities exert an equally powerful pull; he reads urban streets as palimpsests, where every architectural detail carries the weight of human history.

Pezhman began his practice as a photographer, capturing destination landscapes on film during his travels. The transition to mixed media felt organic: he turned his photographic sensibility toward the construction of surfaces themselves. His works now layer photography with oil, acrylic, textiles, resin, encaustic, tar, and found materials — each chosen for its capacity to hold light, resist manipulation, or yield unexpectedly to heat and pressure. The result is a body of work that feels excavated rather than composed, bearing the physical evidence of its own making.

Now based in Atlanta, Georgia, Pezhman continues to produce work that explores the threshold between photography and painting, between natural and urban, between memory and presence. His pieces are held in private and corporate collections across the United States and internationally, and have been exhibited at major art fairs including Art Miami, CONTEXT Art Miami, Art Wynwood, Affordable Art Fair NYC, and Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary. He is represented by galleries in Miami, New York, Berlin, and beyond.
